Pvt. Wendell Eugene Smith, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H Smith, 113 W Ninth street, Newport, has died of injuries suffered April 29 in Korea, his parents have been informed by the Department of Defense. Pvt. Smith, a member of the 50th Anti-Aircraft Company had been in Korea seven months. He enlisted in the Army Sept 27, 1949 and went overseas a year later.

Before his enlistment he attended Newport High School. Besides his parents, he leaves one brother, Louis Smith, Covington, a veteran of World War II; three sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Conpley and Mrs. Shirley Dodson, and Miss Marian Smith, all of Newport and a half-sister Mrs. Francis Hauss, New Baltimore O.

The bodies of two northern Kentuckians who lost their lives in the fighting in Korea are being returned to the United States, it was reported Saturday by the Department of Defense. They are Pvt. Wendell E Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis H Smith, 113 W Ninth street, Newport, and Pvt Eugene Estep, son of Anderson T Estep, Brooksville.

Pvt. Smith, a former student of Newport High School was killed in action on April 29. He was 19. A brother, Louis Smith served during World War II.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday at the Erschell funeral home, Newport for Pvt. Wendell E Smith, who was killed last April 29 while fighting in Korea. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Pvt. Smith, who was 19, leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank H Smith, four sisters, Mrs. Wilbur Hauss, New Baltimore, O. and Mrs. Denis Dobson, Mrs. Kenneth Conley and Miss Marian Smith, all of Newport and a brother, Louis, Covington
