WATSON INDICTED FOR MURDER-The Grand Jury of Campbell County, on Thursday afternoon, reported an indictment for murder in the first degree against W B Watson, the burglar who killed Captain Menter on Tuesday morning last.  There has been a good deal of unnecessary clamor on the part of a few excitable citizens for the immediate trial of Watson.  For the formation of such, we will state that he will be tried on Friday next.

According to the testimony of the City Physician, the prisoner's wounds will not admit of his being removed from his cell in jai. to the courtroom before that time.  Watson himself is anxious for a speedy trial and the civil authorities are determined that he shall have it.  He is strongly guarded and no chance whatever exists for his escaping from custody.  We hope, therefore, for the sake of humanity to hear no more talk of taking the man on a litter into the court room in his present condition.

Colonel Patten, commander of the garrison at Newport Barracks, has tendered the services of one hundred United States Regulars to the Sheriff of the county and that official will station them at once around the jail and keep them there so long as he deems their presence necessary to preserve the peace.
