Walter Walz (sic) 35, of 41 Newman av. Ft Thomas, shell shocked World War veteran ended his life by hanging himself in a cell at the Ft Thomas jail shortly before noon Wednesday. He had used two wire coat hangers, fastened to the ceiling. His body was found by Dr. August Helmbold, Campbell co. coroner, who was his physsician. Dr. Helmbold came to the jail to remove bandages from wounds on Walz's wrists, caused by a previous attempt to end his life.

He had been lodged in jail Monday after he was found wandering the streets of Ft Thomas. He was to have been taken by his brother to a veterans hospital in Lexington. After finding Walz body Dr. Helmbod summoned Dick Brassman, assistant fire chief of Newport who was in the office of Bernard J Nielander, Ft Thomas fire chief at the time. The body was removed to the Dobbling funeral home, Ft Thomas.

Besides his brother Ora Walz, he is survived by his mother, who lives in Ft Thomas. Walz had spent a year in the Veterans Home at Chilicothe.
