Ten pounds of weight, put on in a week, made it possible for
Walter A Peters, 19, of 617 Eighth av. Dayton, to become a United States
soldier. When he applied for enlistment in the regular army at the Cincinnati
recruiting station Saturday, it was his second application in one week.
The Saturday before he had passed all tests until he reached the scales, when at 104 pounds, he found himself six pounds under the minimum for fighters. He went home determined to make weight, and by eating fat producing foods and drinking milk, mixing plenty of exercise with his diet and abundant sleep he tipped the beam at 114 or four pounds over the minimum. He was sent to Ft Thomas.
