NEWPORT


The funeral of the late widely lamented Walter Overton took place yesterday morning at 10 o'clock from St Paul's P E Church, where the Rector Rev Reverdy Estill, conducted the services according to the ritual of the church. Rev Estill paid a glowing and eloquent tribute to the deceased, his eulogy being beautiful word painting. Miss Dalton presided at the organ while the choir sang "Asleep in Jesus" "Lead Kindly Light" and "Till We Meet Again."

While the body was being borne from the church, pall bearers were Messrs. P B Spence, R W Nelson, Henry Queen, John C Schrall, J M Arnold, George W Wilshire, Samuel Bigstaff, Wm H Harton, Frank P Helm, George Washington, and John B Taylor.

During the services Chancery Court adjourned and the Newport National Bank of which the deceased was Cashier, closed its doors. The Directors of the latter passed appropriate resolutions on his death. The remains were interred in Evergreen Cemetery.
