NEWPORT NEWS
DEATH AND BURIAL-Some three or four days ago a soldier by the
name of Walker, who deserted from the Newport Barracks between two and three
years ago, returned to the Barracks and gave himself up. He was lodged in
the guard house and during the first night after his return, as we are informed,
he fell down a flight of stairs and injured himself so seriously that on Friday
last he died from the effects.
He was buried yesterday afternoon by his comrades with the usual ceremonies attendant upon such occasions.
