Victoria Hiatt

Kentucky Post, Tuesday, 1 December 1896, page 5

Monday evening about 5 pm Officer Henry Luzader's attention was attracted to a young lady of prepossessing appearance who had been waiting at the C&O Depot in Newport for several hours. The officer finally asked her why she waited so long.

She stated her name was Victoria Hiatt, her age 16, and she was until Sunday an inmate at the institute at Frankfort conducted by Dr. Hoff. Sunday she was placed aboard a train and sent to Newport, where she expected to meet her sister in law, Mrs. Lena O Hiatt of Elm Tree O. who was to take her to her parents, at Crab Springs O. but the sister in law did not come.

The officer telephoned to Jailer Bitzer and asked if he could take care of her for the night. The Jailer answered in the affirmative, but when he saw the well dressed young woman he concluded to put her in his own apartments in charge of his wife. Tuesday morning Mayor Biltz and Chief Lieberth telephones Dr. Hoff at Frankfort and were informed the young lade was to go to the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, in the highlands and not the sister in law. Jailer Bitzer took her to that institution.
