COLD SPRING
Valentine J. Hubert, a pioneer resident of Campbell county and a veteran of the Mexican and Civil Wars, died early Wednesday morning at the age of 79. The deceased was born in Bavaria, Germany and at an early age came to the United States and settled in Campbell County. He saw active service in many of the important battles of the Mexican war and at the outbreak of the Civil war enlisted as a musician in the First regiment of the Tennessee Light Artillery and was with that regiment until the completion??? of the war. For many years he was a dramatic actor, playing in the largest cities in the United States. He was an enthusiastic member of the G.A.R. and invariably attended their encampments. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Miss Lucy and Mrs. Kath ??? of Newport, and two sons, John A. and George, who is a member of the Eights United States Regular infantry, which is stationed at Ft. Gibson, Alaska. He was laid to rest Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery under the auspices of the G.A.R. The deceased was a friend of the soldiers’ widows and orphans. Campbell county has certainly lost a patriotic gentleman.
