Val Deschler, a veteran of the Civil War, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Pothast, of Grand av. Ft Thomas, yesterday. He had been an inmate at Dayton Soldiers Home for some time but recently came here to reside with his daughter.

Valentine Deschler was born 23 Nov 1835 in Muhlhofen, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1863 and lived in Cincinnati. On 19 Sep 1864 in Cincinnati, he enlisted in the Union Army in the 181st Ohio Infantry Co H. He was discharged 14 July 1865. After the war, he married Charlotte Pothast in 1866 in Cincinnati. He filed for a pension on 4 Dec 1890 while living in Newport Ky.
