Thomas Nixon, 83, known as "Uncle Tom" a pioneer citizen of Newport and one of the oldest members of the Masonic fraternity in Kentucky, died early Sunday morning at the home, 116 West Fourth Street, of pneumonia. About 12 years ago he was stricken with paralysis, but recovered sufficiently to be about.

He was born in Fermoy, Cork, Ireland in 1820. His father in his early days was a soldier under the Duke of Wellington and was present and participated in the battle of Waterloo. He came to Newport in 1849. He married Miss Catherine Phibbs in Toronto Feb 11, 1846. They had eight children and four are living. They are William G of Kansas; Mrs. William H Lyons of Overton Street, Newport; Mrs. William K Partridge of Lockland O. and Thomas Nixon who is in the West.

His first wife died in March 1875 and in 1876 he was again married, this time to Mrs. Hester Armstrong of Cincinnati, who survives him.

The funeral of the late Thomas Dixon, a pioneer in Masonry, whose death occurred Saturday took place Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm with services in the chapel at Evergreen Cemetery. Robert Burns Lodge of Newport and Newport Commandery Knights Templars had charge of the services.
