The Campbell County Bar Association met in the County Court room Saturday to take action on the death of Col. Root. The committee on arrangements are: T P Bodkin, Thomas Healy and Judge Lucius Desha. The honorary pallbearers selected were: H C Dumont, Geo Ahlering, M R Lockhart, J C Wright, Lucius Desha, George Washington, L J Crawford, T P Bodkin.

Thomas B Bodkin, 87, of 20 Fourth st. Newport, died at his home Thursday night, following a long illness. Bodkin was one of the most prominent residents of Campbell co. having been for years active in political and social activities. Bodkin was born in County Galway, Ireland. He came to this country more than 70 years ago. He had lived in Campbell co. for 50 years. He served in the federal army during the entire Civil War. He participated in many of the more important battles.
Following the war he returned to Newport and established a grocery business. While engaged in this business he was elected magistrate of Newport, which then comprised but one district. He held this office for more than 30 years and during this term of office gained the reputation of having married more couples than any other person in this section. Bodkin was elected to Council while still serving as magistrate 58 years ago. He was for many years county chairman of the Democratic party. It was thru his efforts Newport was divided into two magisterial districts.
He was forced to discontinue his political activities several years ago, but remained as a practicing attorney until five years ago. He was a legal advisor to many of hte prominent northern Kentuckians. Mrs. Bodin died several years ago. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Peter A Betz, Hyde Park, Cincinnati and Miss Mary Bodkin, with whom he made his home; two sons, Samuel and Christopher, both of Newport; two granddaughters, Mrs. Howard Ragland and Mrs. Howard Rohan, both of Cincinnati and one grandson, Thomas P Bodkin Jr.
Last rites will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, Newport. Requiem high mass will be intoned Monday at 9 am. Burial in St Stephen Cemetery, Cold Springs (Note: Ft Thomas).

Will of Thomas Bodkin, prominent Newport politician and civic leader who died July 11, was filed for probate late Friday with William Milius, Campbell co clerk. The will provides that two daughters, Mrs. Anastasia Betz and Miss Mary Bodkin and two granddaughters, Charlotte Ragland and Alma Betz, are to receive bequests of $500 each.
To Mary Bodkin, the deceased leaves all his household furniture and personal property in the home at the time of his death. Howard Ragland, husband of Charlotte is given an iron safe. To a son, Christopher Bodkin, leaves his gold watch and chain and shirt buttons, with the provision that after his death they are to go to a grandson, Thomas.
The residue of the estate is to be divided
equally between Bodkin's four children, Mrs. Betz, , Mary Bodkin, Christopher
and Samuel Bodkin. The will names Mrs. Betz as executrix. The document was dated
March 3, 1917.
