Kentucky Post, Friday, 3 March 1911, page 5
Funeral services for the late Theophilus Davis, 72, formerly of Newport, were held this morning at 10 am from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. E H Clark, of Madisonville O. Mr. Davis served with the Guthrie Greys (Sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry) during the Civil War and was wounded in the lung and arm at the battle of Stone River. The bullet that passed through his lung killed a soldier in the rear of him.
Davis was left on the field for dead, but was rescued by a brother and restored to health. The survivors of the old Guthrie Greys will attend the services in a body. Burial will be at Spring Grove.
He is survived by five children, Mrs. E H Clark of Madisonville; Mrs. Mary Davis Thompson of Newport, and three sons, Wallace, Harry and Richard, all of Newport. Mr. Davis was a nephew of James M Griffith, a Cincinnati contractor.
