Jack Henry Thatcher was born in the family homestead on "High View Farm" near Alexandria, 31 July 1893, died 22 April 1973. He attended school in Alexandria, Kentucky. At the age of fourteen he started trading cattle and horses. He would ride his horse Dolly, thru Campbell, Pendleton, and Bracken Counties buying cattle, then he would ride home and get the calf wagon and some help and go back. He would load the calves in the wagon and drive the cattle on foot to Alexandria, Kentucky. Those that were to go the the Cincinnati, Ohio, Union Stock Yards, were turned out at the farm and driven north on the Turnpike (now known as the Alexandria Pike), thru Cold Spring, Kentucky, Southgate, Kentucky, Fort Thomas, Kentucky, and Newport, Kentucky. They would cross the Central Bridge, go up Broadway across Fifth Street to Hopple Street to the yards.
As a young man Jack helped with the raising of small fruits and vegetables. Jack Henry Thatcher married Lillian Cole, 2 May 1925, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Lillian was born in Elbert County Georgia, 8 October 1896, she died 4 November 1980, in Campbell County Kentucky. They are both buried in the Alexandria, Kentucky Cemetery. All of Jack Thatcher's life he loved horses and during fair season he exhibited at most all of them, showing Road Horses as well as Saddle Horses.
Like his father he was a director of the "Bank of Alexandria". He also served as its President in his later years. He was a good farmer establishing a dairy which he operated many years and then to beef cattle. He raised most all the feed he needed for the animals. His herd was always around one hundred in number.
Jack Henry Thatcher was the son of Frank Spilman Thatcher, son of John and Margaret (Spilman) and Mary Elizabeth Grant, daughter of William Samuel and Lydia Ann Grant.
