ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE RECEPTION OF GEN TAYLOR AT COVINGTON

 

At a meeting of the citizens of Covington, convened at the Mayor's office on Wednesday evening, 14 Feb 1849.  Hon James Pryor was called to the Chair and H B Clemons appointed Secretary.

On motion a committee was appointed to proceed to Carrolton, to receive Gen Taylor on behalf of the citizens of Covington-consisting of B W Foley, C B Sanford, Capt. Geo W Cutter, Franklin Riggs and W Banton.

A Committee of arrangements was also appointed consisting of Gov Morehead, Wm Wason, Geo M Southgate, A L Greer and Geo C Tarvin.  A committee of reception was then appointed consisting of:

Gen Taylor in an open carriage, accompanied by the Com. of Reception, Governor of Kentucky, and Suite, Gen Taylor's Suite

Officers of the US Army and Navy
Fire Companies of Cincinnati
Fire Companies of Covington
Civil Associations
Citizens

The right of the procession will rest on wharf at the termination of Garrard street.  The reception committee will receive the President Elect at the wharf from whence, they will proceed to the Methodist Episcopal Church.  The route of the procession will be from the river up Garrard to Fourth street down Fourth street to Madison, up Madison to Pike, up Pike to Scott, down Scott to the Church, where the President Elect will be welcomed by the Mayor of Covington.
