Society
The first services were held in the Chapel of the Army Post, conducted by Army Chaplain Pruden and later by the Reverend Robert Nelson who was rector of Saint Paul's, Newport. Services were later, about 1906 and held in the city building in the big class room in the front of the second floor first by Mr. Nelson and afterward by the first rector of St. Andrews, the Reverend Curtis Fletcher.
Land was bought for a church in 1908 from R A Schriver and the Schriver heirs and the cornerstone layed July 12, 1909. The first committee consisted of Mr. Nelson, Dr. Frank Southgate, Louis Cramer, William L Roselle, B J Helm Jr., Albert V Stegman, Frank Bigstaff, William A Hough and Ed A Weber. To these were added on July 12, 1907, H A Wadsworth, Webster Helm and H M Stegman.
The first trustees were: H A Wadsworth, C J Helm Jr. Frank Bigstaff.
The first gift to the church was a communion service by Mrs. M C Buckingham of Cornwall, Penn. in memory of her husband.
