Commanding officer of Ft Thomas refused to release Sim Baker, Lee co. private in Co M, Third Regiment, wanted by local authorities for the Sheriff of Lee co. Baker is alleged to have deserted his six children, all younger than 16 years.
The offense is a felony, according to a law adopted by the last Kentucky Legislature, but Federal authorities are powerful to refuse release of any soldier or Government employee.
