SLEEP-The death of Samuel Hastings, 70, of West Front Street Newport, was a shock to his friends, as he left home in good health, to make his usual Christmas visits. He was found dead in the areaway of the White House poolroom in Covington, next to the house he was visiting. He has a daughter, Mrs. McIntee who lived at 107 Monmouth Street and she has arranged for the burial. The man was in the habit of visiting his friend, Bert Kearns of Court Avenue in Covington and especially about Christmas time. He brought some handkerchiefs for the children and tobacco for his friend on Wednesday afternoon.

After spending some time with his friend's family he complained of feeling badly and started out to get some fresh air. He sat down on the lumber pile next door and when discovered he seemed to be sleeping. Dr. Strouse was called and by the time of his arrival Hastings was dead. The body was taken to Linneman & Moore morgue and later to the home of his daughter in Newport.
