The illness of Captain Samuel S Fearn, of Newport, is somewhat serious. As stated in the Post Tuesday, he suffered a second stroke of paralysis at his home on York Street, Newport. He was unconscious from 5 am until late in the night. Only two weeks ago he recovered from diphtheria. Capt. Fearn was born in Carrollton Ky. 46 years ago.

For a number of years he was interested in steamboating on the Ohio River and was well known. For the past 10 years he has been one of the United States local inspectors of steam vessels for the Seventh District and ranks high in the service. Capt. Fearn's family consists of himself and wife.

Capt. S S Fearn, 47, a well known resident of Newport and United States Steamboat Inspector, died Saturday this morning at his rooms in the Grayson Flat, 726 York st. Newport. His death was due to paralysis of the heart. Capt. Fearn arose shortly before 7 am to replenish a grate fire in his sleeping apartment and had returned to be when he was stricken. His wife was with him when the fatal summons came.

She at once notified other inmates of the building and a physician was summoned but his services were not needed. Capt. Fearn was just recovering from a stroke of paralysis received 10 months ago and was in unusually good spirits last evening. He was upon the streets yesterday and was arranging to resume his duties as Inspector on Jan 28. The stroke which proved fatal was the third one he had received, the first having occurred three years ago. The stricken official was widely known in river and Government circles and had been in the service 11 years. He had an office in the Government building in Cincinnati.

He had a widow, formerly Miss Roe, of Madison Ind. The funeral will be held at the home Friday morning at 10:30 am. The remains will be shipped to Madison Ind. where the interment will take place Sunday afternoon. A special meeting of Eureka Lodge No 7 K of P will be held Thursday evening to take action on the death of Capt. Fearn.

Captain Samuel S Fearn, for 11 years Steamboat Inspector at Cincinnati, died yesterday at the Grayson Flats, 726 York street, Newport. Death was due to paralysis of the heart. The deceased enjoyed a wide acquaintance among river men and also in Newport.

Yesterday morning he arose about 7 to replenish the fire and before he could return to his bed he was stricken. His wife called in a physician, but the latter's services were unnecessary for Captain Fearn's death ensue in a few seconds.

Captain Fearn had suffered from paralysis for some time. He was convalescent from two former attacks and had expected to return to his desk at the Government Building within a short time. He went to Cincinnati with his wife Wednesday and his friends were gratified to learn that he was recovering. The news of his death will come as a great shock to his host of friends in this and other cities along the Ohio River.

Captain Fearn was 47 years of age and leaves a widow, formerly Miss Roe, of Madison Ind. He was a member of Eureka Lodge, K of P and that body will pay tribute to his memory. Funeral services will be held this morning at the home at 10:30 o'clock. The remains will be sent to Milton Ky, where they will be interred.
