Boatswain's Mate John Scheieis, 20, of the US tug Nina, believed to be lost, whose home is in Cincinnati, had a premonition that the Nina would meet an accident.
Sam Brown, an ordinary seaman, of Newport Ky. was also on the Nina and is believed to have drowned. His folks have not heard from him for several weeks. The naval and revenue services vessels which have been scouring the coast for traces of the missing naval tug Nina reported to the Naval Department Monday their failure to find any trace of the missing boat and the only news picked up is bad news.
The revenue cutter Gresham, which joined the search in the vicinity of Boston, came up with the tug Savage, which left Norfolk at the same time Sunday morning as the Nina. The commander of the Savage reports the sea was running so high that he put back after passing the capes. The Nina, however, kept on with the sea breaking over her bows.
It is likely the Nina became over laden with ice which would increase the danger of her foundering, making her not only unmanageable, but also top heavy. The search will be continued.
