Notification was given Russell S Rankin, retired internal revenue agent, 37 Bellaire avenue, Ft Thomas, yesterday, that he was awarded the Silver Star decoration for bravery under fire during the World War by the War Department.

When his platton commander had been wounded, Sergt. Rankin assumed command and by his courage and ability inspired the men to attack a strong part of the enemy who were holding up the advance. Rallying a group of men, he led them across an open field and succeeded in capturing the position," the citation said.

Mr. Rankin was wounded three times during the attack.
