Rudolph Ruphner

Kentucky Post, Saturday, 8 January 1910, page 7

Rudolph Rupner, 45, employed by Florist William Specht on the Alexandria Pike near Evergreen Cemetery, back of Newport, committed suicide Friday morning by shooting himself through the breast with a shotgun.

Members of the Sprecht family heard the report of a gun in the boiler room of the greenhouse and an investigation revealed Rupner lying on the floor dying. Assistance was summoned but he died in 10 minutes. Rupner had seated himself upon a bench, placed a shotgun against his breast and pulled the trigger by means of a broomstick. Rupner is survived by a wife and four children from whom he was separated. He is thought to be despondent. Coroner Digby was notified and ordered the body sent to Betz's morgue in Newport where an inquest will be held Saturday.

A year ago Rupner, then employed as a grave digger at Evergreen, tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat. He recovered after lying at the point of death at Speers Hospital in Dayton for several weeks.
