While hundreds of friends and associates looked on, the body of
Colonel Robert William Nelson, 82, Nelson pl. Newport, was borne to its last
resting place Tuesday in Evergreen Cemetery. Campbell Circuit Court was
adjourned at noon by Judge A M Caldwell and did not resume until after the
funeral at 2 pm.
Six close friends of Nelson acted as pallbearers. They were: A M Caldwell, Campbell Circuit Judge; William C Buten, Campbell co. judge; Brent Spence, Ft Thomas, city solicitor; Matthew Moore, former Newport police judge; William E Gallagher, attorney and C W Yungblut, attorney.
Nelson was known widely in Kentucky as a criminal attorney and Democratic politician. He was born in Alexandria and lived all his life in Campbell co.
