Robert and Margaret Shaw

Robert Shaw was born in York County, Pennsylvania in 1782. His parents are believed to have been James or John Shaw and Anne Jolly from Ireland. Robert came to Kentucky in the early part of the 19th century, buying land in Alexandria and settling down to the life of a farmer. In Oct 1806 he married Margaret Morin, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Morin. She was born in Culpepper County, Virginia 6 Aug 1786 and died in Alexandria in 1856. Robert died in Alexandria in 1829.

James Shaw was born and died in Alexandria. His home was a lovely large brick house a short distance off the state road, about a half mile west of the center of town. He was a farmer, church worker, and interested in the affairs of the town in which he took an active part. He was one of the first directors of the Alexandria Fair.

Edward Shaw married Rosanna R Baker, daughter of Samuel Bennett Baker and Elizabeth Armstrong. The old frame house in which they lived stood on Gilbert Road. He was a prosperous farmer and took an active part in local and county affairs. Rosanna was born 31 Aug 1810 on her father’s farm on Pond Creek Road.

Jane Shaw was born in Alexandria in 1815 and died there 18 Dec 1874.
In 1833 she married Jeremiah White who was born in 1810 and died 29 Jan 1875. Both lie buried in the Alexandria Cemetery.

It is believed there are several other children, but these are the only ones mentioned in Jeremiah’s will.

Samuel Shaw was born in Alexandria 1 Nov 1823 and married to
Elisabeth Smith 1852. He was active in civic affairs and was president of the German National Bank in Newport.
