Kentucky Post, Thursday, 30 November 1944, page 7

It was the third landing operation for Coast Guardsman Robert B Mussman, son of Mr. and Mrs. R G Mussman, 208 E Third street, Newport, when he participated in the invasion of Leyte in the Philippines with the first waves of assault craft.

He was aboard a Coast Guard manned LST, as the great bow of his heavily loaded ship jarred onto the beach near Leyte's capital city of Tacloban, Mr. Mussman stood his invasion battle station in the steering engine room. Action in several of the earliest Southwest Pacific landing operations which swept American forces back to the Philippines was seen by Mr. Mussman. He is a veteran of landings at Sansapor, Morotal and the Philippines.
