Private Robert Leonard, one of the Ft Thomas soldiers taking part in the ceremonies at the cornerstone laying Saturday in Newport, proved himself a hero as well as a soldier.
Willy Trautman, a school boy, was playing with some matches and set fire to a lot of colored paper, which he was adorned with in the parade and was soon in flames. Private Leonard, who heard the cries, rushed to the lad, and picking him up, placed him in a water trough at 1017 Monmouth st. The soldier's hands were burned.
