OBITUARY
Robert T. Lape, 79, of Bellevue, Ky., who was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame last year, died Sunday in St. Luke Hospital of a heart ailment.
A retired paymaster for the Interlake Steel CO., of Newport, Ky, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newport. He was a deacon of the church and taught Sunday school there all his adult life.
Mr. Lape was a standout basketball and football player at Newport High School, graduating in 1928. He later starred in area church leagues.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen Lyons Lape, a daughter, Arlene Utz of Dayton, Ky; a son, Robert of Southgate, Ky.; three sisters, Louise McCarthy, Dorothy Dorning and Mary RIley of Covington; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Newport. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas, Ky., and 10:30 to 11 a. Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.
