The Philippine Liberation Medal has been awarded to Pfc. Robert J Collins, son of Mr. and Mrs. George J Collins and husband of Mrs. Marie Collins, 300 E Third street, Newport, according to dispatch from Gen. MacArthur's headquarters.

Previously he had received the pre-Pearl Harbor Good Conduct and Asiatic Pacific medals. Pfc. Collins volunteers for service in the armed forces April 4, 1941. He has been active in the Southwest Pacific area since his departure from the states Jan 1, 1944. A graduate of Newport Catholic High School where he was a prominent member of the football team in 1936, Pfc. Collins was employed by Dun and Bradstreet Inc. Cincinnati, prior to entering the service.

He has three brothers in the armed forces, two of which are now somewhere in the Southwest Pacific area and the other in this country.
