Robert
Anderson
Kentucky Post, Monday, 16 February 1903, page 5
A baby boy was found on the doorstep of Robert Anderson, of 215 West Seventh Street, Newport, Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were engaged in a game of checkers when the door bell summoned Mr. Anderson to the door. At that time it was sleeting hard, and the clothing in which the waif was wrapped was covered with ice.
The baby had attached to its garments a note, which read as follows: "I am German. My father is American but he left me. Please take me and keep me." The following was written below: "I can't make my living with this baby on my hands. God will bless you if you give my child a home." Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were touched by the pathetic note and after notifying the police they stated they would adopt the child.
