Funeral of Robert Air
The funeral of Mr. Robert Air took place at 1 o'clock from Grace E Church. The Societies and business men with whom he has associated to show their appreciation of the deceased were out in large numbers. They were composed of Railroad men whose roads center in Cincinnati, the Elks, the Blue Lodge of Masons, Cincinnati, Hanselman, Covington and Newport Commanderies K T.
The deceased was laid out in his K T suit with the insignia
of the order, in a black crape casket, trimmed in gold, the lid bearing on the
head a large cross, at the foot the spare and compass, and in the center on a
large silver plate was engraved, the following:
Robert Air
Aged 35 years
with a column on either end with a globe resting upon them. The floral display
was of the most magnificent character. Robert Burns Lodge No. 168 sent a
square and compass resting on an easel, Oliver Branch Chapter a Triangle on an
easel with sword through triangle; Newport Commandry. Maltese Cross with
insignia of Order and a Passion Cross.
Cincinnati Commandry a Passion Cross surrounded by the rays
of the sun. Cincinnati Lodge No. 5 B P O of Elks a pillow with a dove
hovering over it. The railroad men contributed a column three to four feet
high with the words, faith, hope and charity woven in different colors.
There with many others from Commanderies, Lodges and Private Citizens all made
of the choicest flowers were places around the casket and instead of death
looking as if it had a terror seemed as it was the place where all should seek
to be. The discourse was able and effecting. The remains were taken
to Evergreen Cemetery for interment.
