LOCAL INTELLIGENCE

Pigeon Roost-One of the greatest natural curiosities in the world is a "Pigeon Roost" and no person within a reasonable distance of one of them should neglect to make a pilgrimage to the spot. We have, once in our life, traversed one of these great encampments and we therefore speak understandingly when we declari that a verbal description is not equal to a representation of the vast hive.

There is now a chance to see a Pigeon roost near by, up Licking, about thirteen miles distance, and Captain Air of Newport, dispatches his steam Ferry Boat to the neighborhood, every other day.

A few morning since during a heavy fog on the river, one of Capt. Air's ferry boats collided with a flat boat loaded with tan bark and made fast to the shore. This collision caused the flatboat to break loose and before it could be landed again, it had floated below the foot of Fifth street. The owner yesterday presented a bill of damages amounting to $40 to Captain Air.

NEWPORT NEWS

We have for the past several days noticed the old ferry boat, Kate Howard, belonging to Captain Air at our landing and we have also noticed that she is undergoing some repairs. We can further state that we have noticed a sign handing upon her bow, which reads: "For Salt River on Tuesday morning next."

We suppose from that that Captain Air has all his store on board and will be ready to start with the defeated candidates at the election which takes place on Monday next. Gentlemen, walk up and secure your berths.
