Richard Sansom, 75, of Alexandria, died late yesterday at his home after years of suffering. He was wounded during the Civil War while a member of the Union Army, receiving injuries from which he never recovered. Gunshot wounds failed to heal, despite the best of treatment and at time during the 43 years since the close of the war he suffered so that his mind became unbalanced at times.

After the close of the war he was appointed Postmaster at Shawnee O. and after serving several terms as suck official, he located in Alexandria where he has resided ever since. Deceased was an uncle of Chris Whitehead of Newport.
