Ralph E. Trump Sr.
was a proud patriot whose generosity extended to family, friends and
strangers. "He was a good, honest, generous man," said his daughter Judy
Rimroth of Harrison, Ohio. "If there was anybody in need my father would
provide, even if it meant self-sacrifice."
Rimroth said her father raised her and two other
siblings after her parents divorced in the 1960s. "My father raised
three children all by himself. We were 6, 7 and 10. That's more common
now, but in 1965 it was unheard of," she said.
Mr. Trump, of Dayton, died Wednesday at Veterans
Administration Hospital in Cincinnati. He was 77. He was a World War II
Army Veteran, retired General Electric machinist, a member of the
American Legion and Newport F.O.P., a Kentucky Colonel and a National
Rifle Association member.
Rimroth said her father served as a medic during the
war and was stationed in Germany and France, almost always near the
fighting. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge, in which the
Allies turned back the Nazis' last great offensive of the war. "Medics
couldn't carry guns, so he went out in danger unarmed," she said.
Rimroth said her father was devoted to his country.
"He wanted to go, he signed up, he was not drafted. He wanted to serve
his country and was very proud of that and helping to make our nation
free," she said.
