Preston Thornhill
Cincinnati Enquirer, Monday, 11 July 1910, page 4
DEATH
Officer Preston Thornhill of the Newport Police Department, died
yesterday at Speers Hospital after a lingering illness. Chronic stomach trouble
was the cause of death. Thornhill was a widower and leaves two daughters.
He was appointed patrolman under Mayor Thelmbold's administration and served regularly until compelled to retire on account of illness. The remains will be shipped to Martinsville Ohio, for interment.
Thornhill's death, the second in the Police Department within a week, leaves the force in a badly crippled condition. Officer Thomas Cottingham is also confined to home very ill and because of the fight between the Republicans and Democrats for control it is impossible to add any more men to the force.
