A cutting scrape occurred in Newport last night. The victim in
Robert Berry who lives on Taylor street. His assailant was Pete Fallon, a
resident of Elegantine street. Barry attempted to take Fallon, who had been
drinking, to his home. The drunken man considered the bid an insult and pulling
an ugly locking knife cut Berry a dozen times on the body and head.
Fallon was arrested by the police and lodged behind bars.

The case of Peter Fallon, charge with cutting young Berry, was called in the Police Court yesterday, Newport, and was continued. The wounded man is not able to appear.

NEWPORT
Mr. John M Fallon of 129 East Second street received a telegram
yesterday announcing that the remains of his son, late Private Peter M Fallon,
Company D, second Infantry, had arrived in San Francisco and would be shipped to
this city.
Private Fallon died in the Philippines March 3, 1901. He served one term of enlistment with the Seventh Artillery before enlisting with the Second, of which regiment he had been a member for one year. The body is expected to arrive here next Wednesday or Thursday.
The remains will be interred in Four Mile Cemetery with military honors.
