NEWPORT
PAT McGOVERN, one of Newport's pioneer citizens, died at his home
on Saratoga street. He was one of the most economical men in Newport or the
State and accumulated considerable money. When he was about to climb the golden
stairs he wife wanted him to kill a chicken to give him one square meal, but he
objected on the ground that the hen was laying eggs and its fruit was very high.
