Death of Rev Orson Long
Rev Orson Long, the oldest Methodist minister in the county, who was stricken with paralysis at this home in the Highlands, Saturday, died from the effects of the stroke Monday night.
The deceased was born in St. Lawrence county, New York, and graduated at Potsdam that county, after which he removed to Kentucky, where he taught school at Eagle Creek. He became a member of the M E Church Conference South over forty years ago, and was actively engaged in the circuit until 1876, when he was forced to retire from his laborious duties on account of inflammatory rheumatism.
During the last few years of his life he would occasionally preach to his old flock at Mr. Pleasant M E Church in the Highlands. The deceased was married four times, his last wife being a daughter of John C Gaddis, and who survives him. He also leaves four sons and two daughters to mourn his demise.
The funeral took place this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Mt. Pleasant M E Church in the Highlands.
