OLIVIA C. SCHNEIDER, FARMER
85-year-old loved her orchard, church work and listening
Olivia C. Schneider continued to run the family’s Schneider Orchard in Alexandria, Ky., even after her husband, former Campbell County Commissioner Albert F. Schneider, died in 1980. Mrs. Schneider died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas after a stroke. She was 85
“She was always delighted when someone would ask her how the berries were doing, that kind of thing.” said her daughter Imogene Enzweiler of Alexandria. The farm, which is about 100 acres, grows fruit, mostly peaches and strawberries, and has belonged to the family for 60 years. But Mrs. Schneider also took great pride in assigning parishioners to laundering the altar linens at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.
“She did that for some 35 years.” Enzweiler said. “She made sure there were clean, fresh altar linens every Sunday. She was a quiet-spoken person who had a wonderful listening ear. She gave good counsel. Afterwards, you were glad you could speak with her. She had an easy way about her. She was always there when you needed her.”
In addition to Enzweiler, Mrs. Schneider leaves two sons, Frank and Albert C Schneider, both of Alexandria; and Mildred Klump of Saginaw, Michigan; a sister, Emma Eschan of Newport; and 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mass is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Alexandria Funeral Home, 325 Washington St. Memorials may be made to the St Mary Church Building Fund or to a charity.
