We are called to lament the death of our beloved sister and friend, OI,IVIA GOSNEY, on Wednesday evening, August 21, 1867. Her last illness was short but severe. The wife of Westley C. Gosney, and daughter of Samuel P. and Mary Randall. She was aged 26 years, ? months and 6 days. She was a resident of Campbell County, Ky., and a member of the Baptist Church. Her seat in the earthly sanctuary is now vacated, but she fills the heavenly one. One year of constant suffering only developed more perfectly her excellence and Christian virtues. One thing she often prayed for, which was granted - that she might ever retain her right mind. Truly she was clothed and in her right mind until her last moments, and called on Jesus to receive her spirit. With what feeling the dear husband, children, mother, brothers and sisters gazed with tearful eyes and almost bursting hearts on our departed friend, who had lived but a short time to love and care for us. Our loss we deeply felt, but we do not mourn as they who have no hope. We feel confident that our loss is her gain. The bereavement is great to her beloved husband, children, mother, brothers, sisters and many other dear relations and friends, who hope to meet her again far beyond this vale of tears. May God sustain them in this hour of their bereavement.
Her funeral was attended by a large and sorrowful assembly and a discourse was preached by Elder James M. Jolley, at Pleasant Ridge Church, Campbell County, Ky. I.L.D
