Oliver Miles and Elizabeth DeCourcy

Oliver Miles DeCourcy was born on 12 Jan 1811 in Kentucky, the son of William DeCourcy and Martha Frances Spilman. On 13 June 1832 he was was a Postmaster in Cold Spring and between 1841 and 1848 he was was Sheriff in Campbell Co.  In 1856-57 he was was a loan officer in Newport. DeCourcy, O M-loan office, e s York 1 door n of Jefferson, residence county.

He appeared in the census on 30 Aug 1860 in Campbell Co. and was the census taker 30th of August 1860. signed O. M. DeCourcy; Asst Marshall for Newport. He was a member of the Flagg Spring Baptist Church and was baptized on 7 Jan 1868 in the Flagg Spring Baptist Church Yard.  There is a Miles and a D. M. listed also. He appeared in the census on 10 Sep 1870 in Carthage Precinct, age 59 farmer with 4500 acres worth $1000.

On 1 Jun 1880 he was was a grocer in California, Campbell Co.  He appeared in the census on 1 Jun 1880 in California, Campbell Co.  He is listed as age 69, dwelling no 18, and family no 20. He died on 9 Dec 1889 in Campbell Co. He was buried on 11 Dec 1889 in  Grandview Cemetery in Mentor.

Oliver Miles DeCourcy and Elizabeth Shaw were married on 26 Oct 1837 in Campbell Co. married by James Simmons or John Stamper; bond by Edward Shaw; brother of Elizabeth Shaw, daughter of Robert Shaw and Margaret (Peggy) Morin.  Elizabeth was born on 2 Dec 1815 in Campbell Co. Her father owned 109 3/4 acres on 19 Sep 1839 in Alexandria.  This reference lists all the brothers and sisters, in selling of their father's land. She died on 24 July 1844 in Campbell Co.

Oliver Miles DeCourcy and Isabella Belt were married on 27 Nov 1847 in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio.  Isabella Belt was born about 1820 in Michigan. She appeared in the census on 20 Aug 1850 in Newport.  Listed as age 30 and born in Michigan. She died ?? before 1860 in Newport. Only record of this person is 1850 Kentucky Census for Campbell Co.

Oliver Miles DeCourcy and Cordelia "Adelia" Hamilton Ball were married on 23 Nov 1865 in California, Campbell Co.  Adelia Hamilton Ball, daughter of Edward Porteus Ball and Jannetta H Davis, was born on 13 July 1830 in Campbell Co.  Her first husband was Thomas Littleton Young. She appeared in the census on 23 Aug 1850 in Campbell Co. and also appeared in the census on 16 Aug 1860 in Alexandria.

Oliver and Adelia appeared in the census on 10 Sep 1870 in Carthage.  She is 39 years old and the following children are listed with them; Littleton P. Young-born 1849; Eugene M. Young-born 1951; Janetta W. Young-born 1854; Edward W. Young-born 1856; and Olivier A. Young-born 1859.

She appeared in the census on 1 June 1880 in California, Campbell Co. age 49; dwelling no 18, family no 20; keeping house.  She is on the road tax list in 1892 in Campbell Co.  She is listed in Carthage, with 71 acres, value 1300, personal 0, age none, total 1300. She appeared in the census on 4 June 1900 in California, Campbell Co. Living with Aunt Nettie (Janetta Young) and Dudley B. Ellis, age 69, mother of 7 children and mother of 6 living children.

Adelia died on 11 Nov 1901 in DeCourcy Farm Campbell Co.   Adelia's middle name was in the family Bible. She was buried on 13 Nov 1901 in Grandview Cemetery in Mentor.  Adelia Ball Young DeCourcy's picture has written on its back that she had med brown hair, light blue eyes, complexion fair, and dark brown dress.  Apparently someone has a colored copy of this photo.  Also her name was written in Oliver Miles DeCourcy's Bible which is in the possession of my cousin in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.

Oliver Miles DeCourcy and Catherine Emma Ellis were married on 18 Oct 1896 on the Ellis Farm. Catherine Emma was the daughter of Joseph Robert Ellis and Aseneth Elizabeth Mains and was born on 26 Apr 1872 at the Ellis Farm, Campbell Co Ky. Catharine died on 8 July 1947 in Redwood Falls, Redwood, Minnesota.
