NEWPORT
Oliver Coombs, 60, employed in the Big Four freight officers in
Cincinnati, died in a Newport and Covington street car while en route to his
home at 5 East Third street yesterday morning. When he left his home to go to
work, he complained of feeling badly and about 9 o'clock becoming worse, he
boarded a car at Pearl and Vine streets, Cincinnati for home.
On the Suspension bridge, his condition became critical and as the care reached Madison avenue Coombs fell over. The car was quickly stopped and Coroner Tarvin was notified and the remains were taken to Linneman & Moore's undertaking establishment.
Heart disease, super induced by La Grippe was the cause of death. Conductor A F Reuscher, who had charge of the care did not know him and the Newport police were notified. Lieutenant Adam Lieberth and Officers Creighton and Hamilton succeeded in identifying Coombs, after which the remains were removed to his home by Undertaker Menninger.
