Olive Lindauer

Kentucky Post, Thursday, 30 June 1904, page 5

Death relieved the sufferings of Miss Olive Lindauer, who was frightfully burned at the home of her sister, at Ft Thomas, Wednesday, the details of which appeared first in the Post. She lived but two hours and a half after the accident occurred, although every possible assistance was rendered by the hospital corps.

She was living with her sister and brother in law, Mr. and Mrs. Gabe Griffith, on Weirich av. Ft Thomas and was preparing dinner when she poured oil on the hot coals. The can in her hand exploded, enveloping her in flames. She ran around the room screaming for help, and neighboring women rushed for assistance.

Corporal Workman and Private Walter B Rose, of Company B, ran to the scene and saved five little children from a similar fate. One little babe was asleep in the house. The soldiers rushed in through the burning kitchen and rescued all the children. Major Wakeman and Lt. Blanchard, post surgeons, did all they could to relieve the woman's sufferings, but she died on the way to Speers Hospital.

She suffered intense agony. Her body was so terribly burned that there was not a spot as as large as a dollar that was not scorched. Miss Lindauer's mother resides at Brent Ky. and she was sent for. She arrived shortly after the girl died.
