Newport Cemetery Skeleton
Kentucky Post, Wednesday, 19 October 1904, page 5
Relics of the old graveyard in the vicinity of Eighth and
Columbia sts. Newport, were unearthed Tuesday afternoon by negro laborers
digging the sewer at that place. The workmen were terrorized when the greater
part of an adult person's skeleton was exhumed and for a time it looked as
though they would leave their jobs.
An old coffin, almost rotted to pieces was dug up by one of the picks. One of the white employees re-interred the bone and work was resumed. The lot where the school now stands was years ago a graveyard.
