THE GRANTS LICK HOMICIDE
Brief mention was made yesterday of the killing of Tom Moore by Wm Gibson near Grants Lick. The bloody affray occurred at the home of Mrs. Cheeseman. The young people of the neighborhood had a dance in a house near Mrs. Cheeseman's residence. Among the refreshments was a keg of beer.
At midnight Gibson took the keg with some beer remaining in it to Mrs. Cheeseman's house. When Gibson entered she ordered him out; but with a volley of abuse he refused to go. Mrs. Cheeseman's children called for help. Among others who hurried to the place was Tom Moore. He endeavored to pacify Gibson, but without avail and at last grappled with him in the endeavor to remove him from the house.
In this he partially succeeded getting outside the door. Here a desperate struggle took place between the men, when finally Gibson stabbed Moore twice, inflicting wounds wide and deep, one under the right arm near the shoulder, and the other near the shoulder blade. He lived only fifteen minutes after the fight ceased, vainly calling at intervals for his mother and his younger brother John.
Gibson surrendered himself to the Jailer in Alexandria and is there confined awaiting trial.
