Woman Died under Mysterious Circumstances
The colored colony of Newport was thrown into a state of intense
excitement Tuesday when Mrs. Rose Turner, of 103 East Second Street, Newport,
asked the police of that city to arrest Mildred Wilson, colored, on the charge
of murder. Mrs. Turner's daughter, Hattie, died suddenly Sunday night, Mrs.
Turner told the police that the Wilson woman hoodooed her which resulted in her
death.
The dead woman and Mildred Wilson were both in love with Rev Hugler, pastor of the colored church. The Wilson woman was cut out and she swore vengeance. Witnesses claim that she made some mysterious signs while Hattie lay ill and then struck her, which process, the colored people allege, brought death.
