Melvin George Haigis Sr., 73, of Cold Spring, died at 2:42 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired salesman and department manager with Sears, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. He was a member of the church STP and handymen's group at the church. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Hall Haigis; daughters, Kathy Shimala of Loveland, Ohio, and Melanie Hensley of Taylor Mill; a son, Butch Haigis of California; brothers, Norb Haigis of Pendleton County, Ron Haigis of Cold Spring and Gary Haigis of Falmouth; a sister, Betty Ruschman of Cold Spring; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.
