Campbell Medical Societies

The Campbell-Kenton Medical Society was formed in 1904 through the efforts of Dr. Arthur T. McCormack of Bowling Green, Kentucky.  Unlike the preachers of their time, Kentucky doctors of the horse and buggy days were not required to list their names at the County Court House, so its difficult to determine the exact number of practitioners involved when this society was formed.  The Society's records were lost in the great Ohio River flood of 1937.

It is known that Dr. John Linton Phythian was the first president, and Dr. Fred A Stine was the first secretary.

The earliest medical society appeared in 1840 called the Medical Association of Northern Kentucky.  The Kentucky State Medical Society was formed November 14, 1851.  In 1852 the Covington and Newport Medical and Surgical Society was formed with the following members:
Dr. C F Thomas-President
Dr. D N Jessup-Vice President
Dr. William H Hall-Recording Secretary
Officers on March 12, 1870 were:
Dr. G W Thornton-Newport, President
Dr. D N Jessup-Covington, Vice President
Dr. James N Wise-Covington, Secretary
Dr. W W Henderson, Covington, Treasurer
Dr. Thornton, Shaler and Perror of Newport were elected delegates to the Medical Convention in Baltimore in April 1870.
