At Newport Judge Matt Moore had to try his son in police court. George Moore was one of 16 men accused of gambling, but dismissed because of insufficient evidence.

Judge Matthew Moore, 67, of 511 E Fourth st. Newport, died suddenly early Tuesday at his home. A heart attack caused his death, according to Dr. George J Hermann, Newport physician. Judge Moore was born in Lexington Ky. but had been a resident of Newport for the past 50 years. He was one of the oldest members of the Campbell County Bar Association.
He was elected police judge of Newport in 1901 and in 1905 was elected judge of Campbell County Court. He again was elected Police Court judge in 1917 and was re-elected in 1921. During his last term he ran for mayor of Newport and was defeated by Andrew J Livingston. He was widely known in political circles in Newport. He was a practicing attorney and formerly was associated with the late E W Hawkins, Judge, A M Caldwell of Campbell Circuit Court, the late William Gallager and Horace Root.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Lotta Moore, he is survived by a son, George Moore. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Vonderhaar & Stetter, Newport, undertakers. Campbell Circuit Court will be adjourned on the day of the funeral Judge Caldwell announced Tuesday. Arthur J Daly, president of the Campbell County Bar Association has called a meeting of the association members for Wednesday at 9 am at which action on Moore's death will be taken.
