Mary
Kaufman
Kentucky Post, Saturday, 18 January 1908, page 5
The baby boy found a few days ago on the doorstep of the residence of Mrs. Mary Kaufman, Columbia and Court st. Newport, was in a dress suit case. The weather was cold and the baby was almost frozen when found by a young daughter of Mrs. Kaufman. She hurried to Police Headquarters with it and then to Speers Hospital.
The boy was numb from the cold but when the warm air of the hospital room struck him he began to kick. The Newport police are investigating but have no clue. It is believed some mother from another town, too poor to care for her little one, sacrificed mother love that the baby might have a good home.
