Requiem High Mass for Dr. Martin J Sauter, Campbell county coroner for the past five years and prominent Democratic party leader and physician, will be sung at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at 10 am Thursday, following prayers at the William C Betz Sons Funeral Home, Newport at 9:30 am. Burial will be in St Stephen Cemetery, Ft Thomas.

Dr. Sauter in ill health for the past two years, died Saturday night while visiting friends in Lakewood O. a suburb of Cleveland. His brother, Dr. Leo C Sauter, acting coroner, was informed his death was due to a heart attack. He said his brother's condition was thought to have been improved lately and his death came unexpectedly. A native of Newport, Dr. Sauter twice was elected to the office of coroner. He began his first term in 1937, succeeding Dr. August Helmbold. One of three Democrats elected to office in Campbell county in 1941, he was serving the first year of his second term of office at the time of his death. He was 50.

The son of the late Dr. George F and Mrs. Catherine Sauter of Newport, he was a member of a prominent Newport professional family. His father practiced medicine in Campbell county for many years. Graduating from the old Eclectic Medical College, Cincinnati, in 1916, he opened offices in Newport that year and for many years maintained an office at 848 Columbia street.

He was an Army physician during the first World War and was stationed at Camp Taylor, Louisville, and gave exemplary service during the flu epidemic at the camp. Medical societies to which he belonged included the Campbell Kenton County Medical Society, the Kentucky Medical Society and the American Medical Association. A well known physician, he became prominent in Democratic county and state policies. He was a member of the Campbell county Young Men's Democratic Club and has served as a delegate to the Democratic state conventions on numerous occasions.

Besides Dr. Leo Sauter, he leaves two other brothers, Paul G, Newport, and Lawrence H, San Diego, Calf. and a sister Mrs. Hilda Zang, Newport, where he made his home. Pallbearers will be Erwin Marsellas, Albert E Klosterman, Charles Meyers, Lambert Hehl, James A Diskin and R Allen Barnes, Frankfort Ky.
