Martin Luther Hissem was born May 3, 1845 in Russell Mills, Tyler
County, Virginia to Levi and Elisabeth (Morgan) Hissem. They were married
11 Dec 1840 in Tyler Co. Levi was born April 30,
1816 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, to Jesse Hissem born about 1790 in Maryland.
Jesse died in Meigs County Ohio in 1872. Jesse' father was Martin Hissem,
who came to America from Holland and served in the Revolutionary War.
Martin Luther married Rachel Galloway 31 October 1865 in Tyler County, West Virginia. She was born 11 October 1844, daughter of Jacob T and Martha Galloway. Levi and Elizabeth with sons Martin Luther and Silas Morgan, left Tyler County and moved to Campbell County in 1870. Levi Hissem died 22 Mar 1891 in California Ky. and his wife Elizabeth H Hissem died 17 Apr 1901 at the home of her daughter, Louisa Jane Brown in Tyler County, West Virginia. She was buried in the ME Carthage Cemetery. Levi and Elizabeth farmed and operated a store in California where all the children worked.

To the Editor of the Enquirer; The Olivette will leave here in the morning for Cincinnati and way landings. We will have a right nice trip to start with. W F Hissem will be accompanied by Charles Knox in the office. Mark Miller has the deck and Aaron McGlothlin has the wheel. Upon her arrival at Cincinnati, she will be turned over to Captain Bush Williamson, who will place her in the Cincinnati and Cattlotsburg trade during the continuance of low water, and after navigation opens in Big Sandy River, will work in connection with the Independent in that stream. Rachel Galloway Hissem died 8 Jan 1928 in Manhattan New York.

Mrs. Rachel G Hissem, wife of Martin L Hissem, elevator operator in Havemeyer Hall, Columbia University, died yesterday at her home 8 West Ninety-first Street. Her husband is well known among the students and teachers at Columbia for his annual gifts of "Thanksgiving apples" to the hundred or more persons most of them connected with the chemistry department, whom he invites to call at Havemeyer Hall during his lunch hour. Mrs. Hissem also left a daughter, Mrs. Mary H DeMoss. Services will be held at the home tomorrow morning.

William Jackson Hissem attended a business school in Cincinnati. He ran and was elected a state senator, a Campbell County Judge, and assistant Post Master in Newport. William and his wife Nettie M Pickens were married in 1887. They left Campbell County in 1908 to serve as representatives of an eastern publishing house in the state of California. They then moved to Kansas City where Nettie died March 19, 1928. William died there Aug 11, 1952.
